Protect Maryland Votes Calls Out Hyperpartisan Front Group Designed to Mislead Maryland Voters

Protect Maryland Votes issued the following statement from senior advisor Doug Mayer in response to the formation of Fight Back MD:

“This is nothing more than a hyperpartisan front group whose sole purpose is to mislead and trick Marylanders into supporting extreme gerrymandering and the disenfranchisement of their own friends and neighbors. Instead of telling Marylanders the truth about their goal of amassing total political control, they hide behind nonsensical platitudes and outright lies about fairness.

“For over 50 years, language in the Maryland Constitution has prevented politicians from picking their own voters. Removing that doesn’t protect democracy – it helps to sow the seeds of its own destruction.

“Senate President Bill Ferguson’s continued participation in this travesty is particularly disheartening. It is well established that he knows this is wrong, but apparently his own personal political survival is more important to him. Every one of these legislators swore an oath to protect and defend the citizens of this state, and concocting schemes to limit their ability to choose their own representatives was never part of that oath.”
